Incoming Genetics for Breeding Program

We are close to finalizing our search for new breeding bucks for our program after losing War Dancer to sterility. We now have placed deposits on two new bucks that will be coming into our breeding program... unless something happens at the last moment. We won't have both of the new bucks at our farm until June but we can tell you about the genetics that we are bringing in and why. As we have said many times in other articles, our main focus is on producing characteristics that are focused on delivering lots of meat and if they look good enough to show that is fine but not the primary focus. The focus will be on hind quarters, front shoulders, and thick meaty necks in the bucks. There will be no focus on breeding for long, thin necks just to make an animal look longer for shows.

Below, we will be showing the genetics we will be bringing in since we don't have pictures of the two new bucks coming in.

Our main new buck is a son of Ward's Cat in the Hat that was the 2010 ABGA National Grand Champion Buck. We are working with Sunshine Boer Goats in Tennessee, that own Cat in the Hat, to purchase a 5 month old new buck from them and pick him up after the 2011 ABGA National Show. Sunshine Boer Goats are well known for having top quality animals. Besides having the 2010 ABGA National Grand Champion Buck they won the 2010 ABGA Nationals - Grand Champion Senior Buck with their Polar Express.

You can see the power in Cat in the Hat, shown to the right. You can also see where he gets the power by looking at his sire, TH The Big Cat. Not only did Cat in the Hat do well at the National Show but one of his sons was the 2010 ABGA Junior National Reserve Grand Champion Buck and one of his daughters won her 0-3 month old class.

As you can see in the sire and grand sire, they are loaded with meat in the rear, front shoulder and neck. That is the type of genetics we want in our future kids.

Our second buck we will be bringing in is a solid red buck out of EGGS Tra Teflon, the 2009 ABGA National Senior Grand Champion Buck. The red buck coming in will probably be used for one breeding season and then sold similar to the way we did with Reloaded Ammo.

We have found it extremely difficult if not impossible to find the type of red buck that we are wanting. This new buck is close to what we are looking for but we will continue to be looking for another red/paint buck in the future.

The new red buck does have the good muscle and we think he will help us in the short term with our reds/paints along with an existing young red buck we have.

War Ammo is the buck kid we kept out of Reloaded Ammo. The picture to the right is War Ammo at 2 months old and outgrowing every new kid on our farm. Reloaded Ammo was double bred RRD Ruger and is shown below the picture of War Ammo. That genetics is stacked with meat from one end to another and is highly desired in the industry.

War Ammo is out of our doe Mimi which is a daughter of Painted Warrior and double bred Xtender. Both of those bucks carried a ton of meat.

CBW Choc-O-Lot has arrived at our farm on May 8, 2011 to be the newest member of our breeding program focused on providing color to some of our future kids. We initially thought we would only keep him for a short time and then sell him as we did Reloaded Ammo but have now decided we want to keep him for a longer period. His sire is EGGS Tra Teflon, the 2009 ABGA National Senior Grand Champion Buck. His Dam is JARS Delightful and has an impressive show record also with over 100 show points at the time of this article.

EGGS Tra Teflon and Delightful are both owns by Circle Bar W Boer in Pilot Point and were the breeders of Choc-O-Lot. They are known for breeding top quality Boers. We have seen several of Choc-O-Lot kids and are very happy with what we saw. We are not ready to put him to work with some of our herd this fall.
